Short answer: $40 to $50 for a couple thousand karma, $100 to $150 for 10,000 to 50,000, $200+ above that, per a 2025 SavingAdvice roundup. Age, karma balance and subreddit spread move the number more than raw karma. Selling breaks Reddit's User Agreement, so the sliders below show which signals carry the estimate.

Karma base

Age multiplier
0.3x at 6 months, 5.5x at 10 years
Balance bonus

Subreddit spread
$0.50 to $2 per community
Trust signals
Premium $15, email $5, $3 per trophy
Karma base value
Before the age multiplierTotal karma on the axis, dollars of karma base above each bar.
Age multiplier
2 years = 1.0x baselineLight bars sit under 1.0x, so the account is too young and the karma value shrinks.
Value added per 1,000 karma
Under 2 years the multiplier cuts the karma value (light bars). From 2 to 5 years it adds 0.5x a year, from 5 to 10 years 0.6x a year, then 0.3x a year after that.
Balance bonus: A 50/50 post and comment split scores 100% balance and adds 25% of the karma base. A 95/5 split scores 10% and adds almost nothing.
Subreddit spread: $0.50 per community up to 3, $1.50 each from 4 to 10, $2 each from 11 to 30, then $1 each. Breadth pays most in the middle.
Flat trust signals: Premium adds $15, a verified email $5 and each trophy $3. Small for big accounts, most of the value for brand new ones.

| Step | The new account | The steady hobby account | The fast-farmed account | The long-time power user |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Inputs | 6 months old, 800 karma (600 post, 200 comment), 3 subreddits, Verified email, 1 trophy | 4 years old, 12,000 karma (4,000 post, 8,000 comment), 15 subreddits, Verified email, 4 trophies | 6 months old, 40,000 karma (39,000 post, 1,000 comment), 2 subreddits, No verified email, no trophies | 9 years old, 120,000 karma (50,000 post, 70,000 comment), 35 subreddits, Premium, verified email, 12 trophies |
| Karma base | 800 x $0.001 = $0.80 | $28 + 2,000 x $0.002 = $32.00 | $28 + 30,000 x $0.002 = $88.00 | $108 + 70,000 x $0.001 = $178.00 |
| Age multiplier | 0.3x, so $0.80 becomes $0.24 | 2.0x, so $32 becomes $64.00 | 0.3x, so $88 becomes $26.40 | 4.9x, so $178 becomes $872.20 |

| Trust signals | Email + trophies: $5 + $3 = $8.00 | Email + trophies: $5 + $12 = $17.00 | Email + trophies: $0.00 | Premium + email + trophies: $15 + $5 + $36 = $56.00 |
| Mid estimate | $9.84 | $108.33 | $28.50 | $1,022.28 |
| Range | $6.89 to $13.78 | $75.83 to $151.67 | $19.95 to $39.90 | $715.60 to $1,431.20 |
| Tier | Established | Veteran | Established | Elite |
| Takeaway | Under 1,000 karma the flat trust signals carry almost the whole estimate. Karma barely registers yet. | Four years of age doubles the karma value. Spread across 15 subreddits adds more than all the trophies. | More than 3x the karma of the hobby account, about a quarter of its value. Youth and a lopsided split sink it. | Age does the heavy lifting here: the multiplier alone adds about $694 on top of the karma base. |

Why the reddit account price on listings runs high
A listing prices the account on sale day. It does not price what happens after the handover.

Why a bought account is worth less the day it arrives
| What matters | Account you built | Account you bought |
|---|---|---|
| Reddit User Agreement | Fully compliant, the account is yours | Breaks the no-transfer rule, both sides risk a ban |
| Posting history | Matches your real interests and voice | Written by a stranger, often in unrelated niches |
| Login pattern | Same devices and locations for years | Sudden change of network and location on handover |
| Hidden trust score (CQS) | Built on your own clean actions | Inherits the old owner's record, plus handover signals |
| Recovery if suspended | You can appeal as the real owner | Appeals are weak because you are not the original owner |
| Karma you can cash out | Eligible for the Contributor Program | Payouts need identity checks tied to one person |

The legal price of karma
The Contributor Program is the one sanctioned way karma turns into money. Karma does not pay directly, it sets your rate per gold.
No payout
Under 100 karma
Awards still show on your posts, but no cash is paid out.
About $0.90 per gold
100 to 4,999 karma
Most active hobby accounts land here.
About $1.00 per gold
5,000+ karma
The only point where more karma lifts the payout rate.
How one gold turns into cash
1. A reader buys gold
At launch, $1.99 for 1 gold up to $49.00 for a 25 gold pack.
2. Gives it to your post
The award lands on your post or comment.
3. Reddit credits you
$0.90 per gold at 100+ karma, $1.00 at 5,000+.
4. You cash out
Once you pass 10 gold in 30 days, after identity checks.
That One Redditor explains the karma tiers, the eligibility rules and how a cash-out works, in about three minutes.
| Requirement at launch | Detail |
|---|---|
| Minimum karma | 100 karma to qualify, 5,000+ for the higher rate |
| Minimum gold | At least 10 gold received within a 30 day window, smaller balances roll over |
| Account age | At least 30 days old |
| Who can join | Age 18+, United States at launch, 35 countries since May 2024, identity checks through Persona and Stripe |
| Content | Safe-for-work posts and comments only |

Past 5,000 karma, $1.00 flat. More karma stops raising the rate per gold. Posts people want to reward raise earnings.
Accounts put to work

The score you cannot see
Since 2023 Reddit rates every account with a Contributor Quality Score. Moderators can filter on it, and you are never shown yours.

What you control
This calculator cannot read your CQS. Treat its estimate as a ceiling if your account has a messy moderation history. The CQS checker estimates it from public signals.
| Trust signal | What it tells Reddit | Effect on value |
|---|---|---|
| Verified email | Confirms a real person set up the account rather than a bot script. | Small, consistent boost |
| Reddit Premium | An ongoing paid subscription tied to the account. | Signals long-term intent |
| Trophies and awards | Recognition from Reddit or other users for notable posts or milestones. | Adds perceived credibility |
| Cake day / account age | Verifiable tenure on the platform since account creation. | Largest single factor in value |
| Balanced karma split | Karma earned from both posts and comments, not one alone. | Reads as organic engagement |
| Subreddit diversity | Activity spread across many communities instead of one. | Signals broad, non-farmed trust |
| Invite-only community access | Membership in merit-based private subreddits earned through reputation rather than paid for. | Can raise perceived value |

Growth playbook
Reddit is one of the few platforms where account reputation directly changes visibility. That is why accounts have value at all.

Diversify your subreddit activity
Show up regularly in 10 to 15 communities.
Balance your karma sources
Comment on rising posts, post original work too.
Verify everything
Add two-factor auth. Small signals add up.
Be patient with account age
No shortcut. Every active month counts.
Building for a product? MediaFast finds the subreddits where your audience hangs out, checks their rules, drafts posts and flags threads worth joining, while you write the comments yourself. The rules-first SaaS playbook shows how that turns into customers.
Most overestimates and underestimates come from a handful of repeated errors.
1. Treating karma as a currency with a fixed exchange rate
Karma is "just an approximate reflection" of community response, per Reddit's karma docs
2. Ignoring that buying or selling breaks the User Agreement
Every quoted price assumes a trade Reddit bans, both sides risk a permanent ban
3. Assuming higher karma always beats older age
40,000 farmed karma at 6 months: $28.50. 12,000 karma at 4 years: $108.33
4. Skipping the post-to-comment karma ratio
95% post karma reads very differently from a healthy mix at the same total
5. Not checking for dormant-then-active patterns
A long gap then a sudden burst is a clear sign of a reactivated account
6. Overweighting awards and trophies
At $3 a trophy they rarely move the estimate like age and balance do
The difference between an account that is worth something and one that only looks valuable on paper.
Post and comment consistently across multiple subreddits you care about
Verify your email and enable any account security features Reddit offers
Let account age accumulate naturally rather than chasing shortcuts
Aim for a healthy mix of post karma and comment karma over time
Find subreddits where your genuine expertise fits before you post
Buy or sell an account. It violates Reddit's User Agreement and both parties risk a ban
Farm karma with repost bots or copy-pasted top posts from other subreddits
Concentrate all activity in one subreddit hoping karma alone carries trust
Let an account sit dormant for months and then suddenly post in bursts
Assume trophies or Premium alone will offset a thin, inconsistent posting history

16 common questions about Reddit account valuation, prices, karma payouts and what drives worth.
With this calculator's weightings, a 3 year old account with 15,000 karma, an even karma split, 12 active subreddits, a verified email and 3 trophies lands at about $96 (range $67 to $134). Grey-market sellers in 2025 quoted $40 to $50 for a couple thousand karma, $100 to $150 for 10,000 to 50,000 karma and $200 or more above 50,000, per SavingAdvice. Selling still breaks Reddit's User Agreement.
Reddit account value is estimated using multiple factors: total karma (with diminishing returns at higher levels), account age (older accounts are exponentially more valuable), the balance between post and comment karma, activity diversity across subreddits, Reddit Premium status, email verification, and trophy count. Each factor contributes a weighted portion to the final estimated range.
Reported grey-market prices from a 2025 SavingAdvice roundup: about $40 to $50 for an account with a couple thousand karma, $100 to $150 for 10,000 to 50,000 karma, $200 or more for 50,000 to 100,000+ karma, and up to around $200 for an active account a few years old. Those are seller asking prices for a trade Reddit bans, not a price Reddit recognizes.
Yes. In this calculator's tiers, 50,000 karma is where Power User starts (50,000 to 200,000), above the Veteran band of 10,000 to 50,000 that most active accounts sit in. Grey-market sellers in 2025 quoted $200 or more for accounts above 50,000 karma, per SavingAdvice. Age still moves the estimate more than karma, and Reddit's Contributor Program already pays its top rate from 5,000 karma.
Older Reddit accounts carry more trust and credibility within the platform. They are less likely to be flagged as spam, can post in subreddits with age restrictions, and generally have established posting history. Accounts over 5 years old are significantly more valuable than newer ones because they appear more authentic to both users and Reddit algorithms.
It is a rule of thumb from Jakob Nielsen of Nielsen Norman Group (2006): in most online communities about 90% of users only read, 9% contribute now and then, and 1% create most of the content. It describes online communities in general, not a Reddit measurement, but it explains why accounts with years of upvoted posts and comments are scarce, and why karma and age carry the most weight in this estimate.
Yes. Accounts with a healthy mix of both post karma and comment karma are more valuable than those with karma concentrated in one type. A balanced karma profile signals genuine engagement rather than karma farming from reposts or single viral posts. Comment karma is often weighted slightly higher because it indicates real community participation.
Selling Reddit accounts violates Reddit Terms of Service. This calculator is for educational and entertainment purposes only. Understanding your account value helps you appreciate the effort behind building a Reddit presence and shows why authentic, long-term engagement matters more than buying established accounts.
Not without breaking the rules. Reddit's User Agreement says you will not license, sell, or transfer your account without Reddit's prior written approval. A sold account also changes devices, networks and owner behavior overnight, which is the kind of signal Reddit's hidden trust score reacts to, so buyers often end up with a filtered or banned account.
Yes, through Reddit's own Contributor Program. When it launched in 2023, accounts with 100 to 4,999 karma earned about $0.90 per gold received and accounts with 5,000 or more karma earned about $1.00 per gold, with a 10 gold minimum in a 30 day window, an account at least 30 days old, age 18 or older, and US residency at launch. Reddit expanded it to 35 countries in May 2024.
For marketing purposes, account value depends on age, karma, subreddit activity, and reputation. An account that is old, has high karma across many subreddits, and has verified email is far more effective for organic marketing because it bypasses spam filters and earns community trust. Tools like MediaFast help you get more out of your Reddit presence without risking bans.
No. This calculator never asks you to log in, connect an account, or grant any permissions. You read a few numbers off your Reddit profile (total karma, account age, active subreddits, trophy count) and enter them with the sliders above. Nothing is stored and no account access is required.
Open your Reddit profile. On old.reddit.com/user/yourname the sidebar lists post karma and comment karma separately, how long you have been a redditor, and your trophy case. On the newer site and the app your total karma and cake day sit on the profile card. Enter those numbers into the matching sliders and the estimate updates instantly.
No. The output is an illustrative estimate based on the karma, age, and trust-signal weightings described on this page, not a live marketplace quote. Actual prices vary and, more importantly, buying or selling accounts violates Reddit's User Agreement. Treat the number as a way to understand which factors drive account value, not as a listing price.
Yes. Because you enter the numbers manually, you can run the sliders once for your own account, note the estimate, then re-enter a second account's karma, age, and activity to compare the two. It is a quick way to benchmark your profile against another before you decide where to focus your Reddit growth.
The Contributor Quality Score (CQS) is a hidden trust rating Reddit assigns to accounts, sorted into five tiers from lowest to highest. Moderators can filter posts by it through AutoModerator. Reddit does not show users their own tier, and it weighs signals like past account actions, network and location patterns, and account security, so karma alone does not guarantee a high tier.
Can Reddit karma go negative?
YesIf downvotes outweigh upvotes, a karma category can drop below zero. Old age plus heavy negatives can signal a rule-breaking pattern.
Does deleting old posts remove the karma they earned?
NoCredited karma stays after you delete the post or comment, which is why some high-karma accounts show a thin history.
Do Reddit awards add karma directly?
Not directlyAwards are a separate signal. They add visible trophies, and under the Contributor Program gold can turn into a payout.
Post karma: Karma earned when other users upvote a submission you created.
Comment karma: Karma earned when other users upvote a reply you left on someone else's post.
Cake day: The yearly anniversary of an account's creation date, shown on the profile.
Karma farming: Reposting proven viral content or using low-effort tactics purely to inflate karma.
Shadowban: A restriction where a user's posts and comments are hidden from others without notice to the user.
Trophy: A badge Reddit awards for milestones such as verified email, cake days, or community recognition.
Account age: Time elapsed since account creation, the single strongest trust signal per this page's tier table.
Karma cap: Some subreddits require a minimum karma threshold before a new account can post there.
Gold: Reddit's paid award currency. Gold received counts toward Contributor Program earnings.
CQS: Contributor Quality Score, Reddit's hidden five-tier trust rating that moderators can filter on.
