Reddit monitoring, free and paid
Last updated October 28, 2026
The short answer
Reddit monitoring means getting an alert when your brand, a competitor or a problem phrase shows up in a Reddit post or comment. For free, start with F5Bot (5 keywords, email alerts within 2 hours) or KWatch.io. Syften alerts in under a minute from $29.95 a month. Brands that need sentiment across many sites pick Brand24 or Awario.
What Reddit monitoring is
Reddit has no built-in keyword alerts, so monitoring means plugging in a tool or a feed. People use it to catch brand mentions, competitor complaints and buyers asking for a recommendation.
Free alerts
$0
Solo founders checking a brand name and 2 to 5 phrases
Few keywords, mostly email, and alerts can take up to 2 hours on F5Bot's free plan.
Examples: F5Bot free plan, KWatch.io free plan, Reddit RSS feeds, Reddit Pro Trends
Paid alert tools
$12.99 to $499 a month
Founders and small teams who reply to threads for leads
More keywords, alerts in seconds to minutes, Slack or webhooks, sometimes AI filtering.
Examples: Syften, F5Bot Silver/Gold, KWatch.io, RedShip, Prowlo, Octolens
Social listening suites
$29 to $1,499+ a month
Brand, PR and marketing teams reporting on reputation
Sentiment, reach and many sources, with Reddit as one of them. Overkill if Reddit is your only channel.
Examples: Brand24, Awario, Mention
Want to try it before paying for anything? Reddit serves RSS feeds for subreddits and search results: add .rss to a subreddit URL, for example reddit.com/r/SaaS/new/.rss, and follow it in any feed reader (Feeder's guide lists the URL patterns). Reddit Pro, Reddit's free business suite, added a Trends tab in January 2025 that charts conversation volume for a keyword and lists the communities talking about it (TechCrunch).
How to monitor Reddit for keywords and mentions
The same setup works in any Reddit keyword tracker on this page, free or paid. Getting the keywords right matters more than which tool you pick.
Brand terms (product name, common misspellings, your domain), competitor terms (each rival's name, plus "[rival] alternative"), and problem phrases your buyers type, like "how do I track mentions on reddit". To find those phrases, mine Reddit for keywords: search your category, sort by new, and copy the wording people use in titles and comments. Start with 5 to 10 terms in total. Free plans cap you low (5 keywords on F5Bot, 2 on KWatch.io), so spend them on the phrases that signal a buyer.
If your name is a common word, exclude the meanings you do not want. Example: an app called Atlas would exclude "atlas shrugged" and "atlas mountains". Search each keyword on Reddit sorted by new first. If the first page is mostly unrelated, the term is too broad for an alert.
Keyword tools like F5Bot, Syften and KWatch.io search every subreddit at once, so one keyword covers all of Reddit. If you only care about a handful of communities, Prowlo's $19 plan watches up to 25 subreddits or users hourly. A good setup pairs a short subreddit list with one all-of-Reddit alert for your exact brand name.
Many brand mentions and recommendation requests sit in replies, not in post titles. F5Bot, Syften and Octolens say on their own sites that they cover comments. For the others in this list the vendor page does not say, so ask before you pay.
Email works for a few alerts a day. Teams usually want Slack or Discord (F5Bot from Gold, KWatch.io from Business, Octolens on every plan). If you only reply once a day, a daily digest is enough and a sub-minute tool is money you do not need to spend.
Example keyword set (illustrative)
brand: "atlas crm", "atlascrm.com", "atlas-crm" competitor: "hubspot alternative", "pipedrive too expensive" problem: "crm for freelancers", "track clients spreadsheet" exclude: "atlas shrugged", "atlas mountains", "atlas v"
A made-up product to show the shape: one exact brand match, two competitor phrases, two problem phrases, and the exclusions that keep the feed clean.
Where alerts can go
Reddit brand and keyword monitoring
A name match only catches people who already know you. These five groups of phrases cover complaints, rivals, buyers and product feedback, and each one has an owner who can act on it.
Start with the exact brand name, common misspellings, your domain and the founder's name. Then add the phrases people use when they are close to deciding: pricing, review, vs, and "anyone tried". These land in comparison and review threads that stay findable long after they are posted.
"YourBrand", "YorBrand", "yourbrand.com", "YourBrand pricing", "YourBrand vs", "anyone tried YourBrand"
Complaints and outages have a short window. Watch for words that mean something broke or someone is leaving. If the same problem shows up in several threads at once, treat it as an incident, not a single reply.
"YourBrand not working", "YourBrand down", "leaving YourBrand", "cancel YourBrand"
Track each rival by name, plus the phrases that signal a switch. Someone asking which of two tools to pick is deciding right now. A thread full of complaints about a rival's pricing change tells you what to address in your own copy, even if you never reply.
"alternative to Rival", "Rival vs", "switching from Rival", "Rival too expensive"
Most buying threads never name a product. Track the problem and category phrases a buyer types before they have picked anything. These need more manual review than name matches, and they are where people who do not know you yet show up.
"looking for a CRM for freelancers", "best [category] for [team type]", "what do you use for [workflow]"
Phrases like "wish it could", "does it support" or "connect it to [tool]". One request is a data point. The same request in several separate threads is a roadmap signal. Integration questions also show which tools your buyers already run.
"wish YourBrand could", "does YourBrand support", "YourBrand + [other tool]"
Fast alerts or a digest
Use the fast channel for trouble signals and buyer research phrases, where the window to reply is short. A daily digest is enough for reviews, comparisons and competitor tracking. If your team is small, one channel works as long as every alert is tagged with its group.

For founders and lead finding
Cheap, fast keyword alerts and tools built to find threads where someone is asking for a product like yours.
F5Bot has been running since 2017 and watches Reddit, Hacker News and Lobsters for your keywords. Its homepage says it tracks mentions across posts and comments in every subreddit. The free plan covers 5 keywords and 20 alerts a day by email, for personal use, with alerts up to 2 hours after a match. Silver ($12.99/mo) gives 20 keywords and alerts within 5 minutes. Gold ($49.99/mo) gives 200 keywords, instant alerts, one Slack or Discord channel and RSS/JSON feeds. API and webhooks start at Platinum ($214.99/mo).
Pros
Cons
Syften aims for at most a 1 minute delay on Reddit and says it tracks Reddit posts and comments. It also covers about 18 kinds of sources, including X, Hacker News, GitHub, forums, Slack communities, YouTube, podcasts, Bluesky and Mastodon. You set it up with filters (one filter is one search query). Entry ($29.95/mo) gives 3 community filters and 100 results a day with a 7 day archive, Standard ($49.95/mo) gives 20 filters, and PRO ($119.95/mo) gives 100 filters and the full archive. X monitoring is a $40/mo add-on.
Pros
Cons
KWatch.io says its refresh rate is per second, so alerts usually land within a couple of seconds and within 1 minute when traffic is heavy. The free plan includes 2 Reddit keywords and 2 Hacker News keywords, without filtering, AI analysis or Slack. Essential ($19/mo) raises that to 20 Reddit keywords and adds X, YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn alerts plus filtering and AI analysis. Business ($79/mo) gives 100 Reddit keywords and adds API, webhooks, Slack and MCP.
Pros
Cons
RedShip is built around finding leads rather than raw alerts. Founder ($29/mo) tracks 1 product, 10 custom keywords and 3 competitors, with email and Slack alerts, daily lead opportunities, daily competitor tracking and unlimited AI reply suggestions. Company ($49/mo) covers 3 products, 30 keywords, 10 competitors, 3 seats and adds webhooks. Both add weekly SEO opportunities and AI citation tracking. There is no free plan, only a $12 one-time pass for 7 days of full access. Yearly billing is listed at 40% off.
Pros
Cons
Prowlo's $19/mo plan gives you 25 Watchers across subreddits, Reddit users, Hacker News, Mastodon, RSS and X, each checked hourly, plus a Keyword Monitor for 20 keywords across all of Reddit, checked about daily. Results go out through MCP, a REST API or webhooks, which suits people piping alerts into their own agent or workflow. Scale ($79/mo) is for heavier agent workloads.
Pros
Cons
MediaFast is our Reddit marketing software, so read this entry with that in mind. It is not a push-alert monitor like F5Bot or Syften. Comment Finder surfaces the best threads to reply under, Subreddit Picker matches you to communities from 4,200+ subs, the Post Generator drafts rule-aware posts, and the Ban-Safe Playbook with a Daily Action Plan tells you what to post, where and when. It costs $39 a month or $129 once for lifetime, with unlimited projects.
Pros
Cons
After the alert
Alert tools tell you a thread exists. MediaFast's Comment Finder surfaces the best threads to reply under, and the Post Generator drafts posts that follow each subreddit's rules. Run it yourself, or have us run it for you.

For brands and social listening
Reddit listening tools that monitor Reddit mentions alongside other channels, with sentiment, reach and reporting, plus Reddit's own free trend dashboard.
Octolens says it monitors Reddit text posts, link posts and comments, and that new Reddit mentions arrive within 1 to 2 minutes. Its pricing table lists an hourly refresh on Pro and real-time on Scale, so check which one you need. Pro ($159/mo billed annually) gives 10 keywords, 15,000 mentions and 2 years of history. Scale ($499/mo billed annually) gives 40 keywords, 50,000 mentions and adds podcasts, news, newsletters and the web. Every plan includes email and Slack alerts, webhooks, an MCP server, full API access, a daily brief and CSV export.
Pros
Cons
Brand24 is a full social listening suite with Reddit as one of its sources, and its Reddit page leads with sentiment tracking. Update speed depends on the plan: Individual ($249/mo, or $199/mo billed annually) updates every 12 hours, Team ($349/mo) every hour, and Pro ($499/mo), Business ($699/mo) and Enterprise (from $1,499/mo) in real time. It fits teams that report on brand health across many channels, and it is a lot of tool if Reddit is your only channel.
Pros
Cons
Awario says its Reddit engine checks posts across all public subreddits and that new mentions usually reach your dashboard within a couple of minutes. Starter ($49/mo, or $29/mo billed annually) includes 3 topics and 30,000 new mentions a month, Pro ($149/mo, or $89/mo annually) 15 topics and 300,000 mentions, and Enterprise ($399/mo, or $249/mo annually) 100 topics. Every plan lists unlimited keywords per topic, boolean search, API access and white-label reports.
Pros
Cons
Reddit Pro is Reddit's own free suite of tools for businesses. In January 2025 Reddit added a Trends tab that lets you track keywords or phrases like a brand name, product name or category, built on around 100,000 'smart' keywords. For each term you get a chart of Reddit conversation volume, a list of communities mentioning it and a feed of matching conversations. You check it in a dashboard; it does not send instant alerts.
Pros
Cons
Mention lists Reddit as a source next to Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, Pinterest and YouTube. Its pricing page shows one Company plan tailored to your monitoring needs, with no public dollar amount, and pushes a demo request. Yearly billing is listed as 2 months free. It suits teams that want Reddit inside a wider media monitoring setup more than founders looking for a quick keyword alert.
Pros
Cons
Alert speed, plan by plan
The same tool can be instant on one plan and hours behind on another. Longer bar means a faster stated alert.
Bars are a rough visual of each vendor's own stated speed, not our measurements. Mention does not state a speed, and Reddit Pro is a dashboard without push alerts.
Why so many people are switching tools
GummySearch was a popular Reddit research and keyword tracking tool. Many of its users are now picking a monitoring tool from this list.

GummySearch closing noticeAny tool that reads Reddit at scale faces the same question, so ask a vendor how it gets Reddit data before you build a workflow on it. If you are replacing GummySearch's research side too, our GummySearch alternatives page compares nine options.
Before you reply to anything
Reading public threads carries no risk to your account. What you post after the alert is where the risk lives.
Alert and listening tools (F5Bot, Syften, KWatch.io, Octolens, Brand24, Awario, Mention, Prowlo, Reddit Pro) read public data and never post as you.
Tools that draft replies (RedShip's AI suggestions, MediaFast's Post Generator) stay low risk when you read and edit every draft and follow each subreddit's self-promotion rules.
Anything that posts to Reddit without a human checking first. Unreviewed replies are the fastest way into spam filters, whichever monitor feeds them.
Every tool here will tell you a relevant thread exists. Few help you decide whether it is worth a reply or write one that fits the subreddit. That is where most monitoring setups stall: the alerts pile up and nobody answers them. Tools like MediaFast pick up from there, with Comment Finder for the threads worth answering and rule-aware drafts for the reply. If you want to see what that looks like first, the free Reddit Opportunity Finder surfaces high-intent posts for your product, and how MediaFast's Reddit monitoring works explains the full workflow.
After the alert
The same order works for a keyword match and for a negative brand mention. The aim is to reply once, usefully, and not to react too fast.
An alert shows one sentence. Read the post and the top comments first. The keyword may sit in a context that makes a reply pointless, or the question may already be answered.
A thread from a few hours ago with active comments is worth a reply. A days-old thread nobody is reading is not. If someone already gave a good answer, add something different or skip it.
Buyer phrases like "looking for" or "alternative to" deserve a reply the same day, while the thread is live. Competitor tracking and passing mentions usually need only a note in your log. If you are unsure, do not reply.
Check the upvotes, the size of the subreddit and whether the complaint is accurate. Draft the reply, let it sit for about 15 minutes, then read it again. A reply written in anger makes the thread worse.
Use an account that shows your name and role, say you work on the product, and answer the question before you mention it. Acknowledge the specific complaint, skip marketing language and do not argue. One person owns the thread, so teammates do not pile in. Link docs or a changelog, not your pricing page.
Move account details and error messages to a DM, then fix the problem. Post a short update in the original thread so later readers see the outcome, and check the thread again after a few days, since new comments can revive it. Never ask the poster to delete their post.
Reply template: Complaint
Hi [username], [Name] from [YourBrand] here. That is frustrating, and [the specific thing they described] should not happen. I sent you a DM so I can look at your account directly. I will post an update here once it is sorted.
Reply template: Comparison question
Disclosure: I work on [YourBrand]. The main difference is [one honest sentence]. If [use case] matters most to you, we are likely a better fit. If [rival strength] is the priority, look at [Rival]. Happy to answer specific questions.
Reply template: Feature request
[Name] from [YourBrand] here. [Feature] is not built yet and I cannot promise a date, but I have passed this thread to our product team. For now, [workaround] covers part of it.
Fill in the brackets and change the wording so it sounds like you. Templates are a starting shape, and a reply that reads like a template gets treated like one.
What trips people up
F5Bot, Syften and Octolens say they cover comments. KWatch.io, RedShip, Prowlo, Brand24 and Awario do not say it on the pages we checked. Recommendation requests often live in replies, so ask.
Octolens refreshes hourly on Pro and in real time on Scale. Brand24 updates every 12 hours on Individual and in real time from Pro ($499/mo). F5Bot's free plan can take up to 2 hours. Check the plan, not the homepage.
F5Bot Silver is $12.99/mo today, not the $9.99 some lists still show. Octolens only shows annual-billing prices. Every price on this page was checked on the vendor site in October 2026.
Brand24 and Mention make sense when you report on many channels. If Reddit is your one channel, a Reddit-focused alert tool gives cleaner results for less.
An alert tells you a thread exists. Deciding which threads deserve a reply and writing one that fits the subreddit's rules is a separate job most alert tools leave to you.

Reddit monitoring means getting notified when a keyword you care about (your brand, a competitor, or a problem your product solves) appears in a Reddit post or comment. You can do it free with F5Bot, KWatch.io, Reddit RSS feeds or Reddit Pro's Trends tab, with paid alert tools like Syften, or with social listening suites like Brand24 that add sentiment and reach.
Yes. F5Bot's free plan covers 5 keywords on Reddit posts and comments with email alerts up to 2 hours after a match. KWatch.io's free plan covers 2 Reddit keywords with near-instant alerts. Reddit Pro is free and shows conversation volume and a feed for tracked keywords. You can also add .rss to a subreddit URL and follow it in any feed reader.
Write 5 to 10 keywords (brand, competitors, problem phrases), add negative keywords for meanings you do not want, choose all of Reddit or a list of subreddits, make sure the tool covers comments, and pick email, Slack or Discord for delivery. F5Bot is the quickest free start: sign up, add a keyword, and alerts arrive by email.
Add your brand name, common misspellings, your domain and the founder's name as keywords, then add negative keywords for any other meaning of the name. Search all of Reddit, make sure the tool covers comments, and send alerts to email or Slack. For free, F5Bot covers 5 keywords, KWatch.io 2 Reddit keywords, and you can follow a Reddit search with .rss in any feed reader. Reddit Pro's Trends tab shows conversation volume for a brand name but sends no alerts.
Track five groups: your name plus pricing, review and vs phrases; trouble words like "not working" and "cancel"; competitor names with "alternative to" and "switching from"; problem and category phrases where buyers never name a product; and feature or integration requests. Name matches only reach people who already know you, so the category phrases are where new buyers show up.
Read the whole thread, judge how serious it is, and wait about 15 minutes before you answer. Reply once from a named account, say you work on the product, acknowledge the specific complaint and skip marketing language. Move account details to a DM, fix the problem, then post a short update in the original thread. Do not ask the poster to delete anything and do not let several teammates reply to the same thread.
Use quoted exact matches and a context word for short or common names ("Arc browser", not "Arc"), add negative keywords for the other meanings, and check the post date before replying to an old thread. Narrow broad category phrases to a use case and audience, and cut any keyword that is mostly noise when you review your list each month.
Yes. Keyword alert tools like F5Bot, Syften and KWatch.io search every subreddit at once, so one keyword covers all of Reddit. If you want to watch only specific communities, Prowlo's $19/mo plan gives 25 Watchers across subreddits, Reddit users, Hacker News, Mastodon, RSS and X, each checked hourly.
The best tool to track Reddit depends on the job. For founders: F5Bot (free), Syften (under 1 minute, from $29.95/mo) and KWatch.io (free plan, $19/mo paid). For finding leads: RedShip ($29/mo). For brands: Octolens (from $159/mo billed annually), Brand24 (from $199/mo billed annually) and Awario (from $29/mo billed annually). Reddit Pro is the free official option for trend data.
KWatch.io says seconds (up to 1 minute when busy), Syften targets under 1 minute, Octolens says 1 to 2 minutes and Awario a couple of minutes. F5Bot ranges from up to 2 hours on the free plan to instant on Gold. Brand24 updates every 12 hours on its Individual plan and in real time from Pro.
If you want the same job for less, F5Bot Silver ($12.99/mo, alerts within 5 minutes) or KWatch.io Essential ($19/mo) are the closest. If you want AI-filtered mentions across more platforms, Octolens covers posts and comments from $159/mo billed annually. If you want daily leads with reply suggestions, RedShip starts at $29/mo.
Pay when the free limits hurt: more than 5 keywords, alerts faster than 2 hours, or Slack delivery. If you reply to a few threads a week, F5Bot's free plan is enough. If one customer from a Reddit thread covers a year of a $12.99 to $49.99 plan, the paid tier is easy to justify.
GummySearch closed to new signups on November 30, 2025, saying it was shutting down to comply with Reddit's API policies, which forbid commercial applications. Paid subscribers keep access until their billing period ends (up to a year) and Lifetime Deal holders keep access until November 30, 2026. It said over 140,000 founders, marketers and investors had used it.
Monitoring is the alert: a keyword showed up, here is the link. A Reddit listening tool adds analysis on top, like sentiment, reach and share of voice across many sites, which is what Brand24, Awario and Mention sell. Most founders need monitoring first and listening later, if at all.
Not as an instant alert feed. MediaFast's Comment Finder surfaces the best threads to reply under, and the Post Generator drafts rule-aware posts for the subreddits Subreddit Picker matches you to. If you need instant keyword alerts, pair it with F5Bot or Syften.
MediaFast finds the threads worth answering with Comment Finder and drafts rule-aware posts for the subreddits where your buyers are.
